PULAU
TIOMAN
32km east of
Mersing lays one of the largest islands in the east
coast of Peninsular Malaysia - Pulau Tioman. Pulau
Tioman is a household name to many holiday makers
within the region. It had its fair share of Hollywood
stardom where it was the setting for the supposedly
mythical island of Bali Hai from the movie “South
Pacific” in 1958.
This island is ideal for scuba diving as it has
an excellent selection of dive sites catering to
divers of all levels. The dive sites are generally
scattering around the western coastline and very
easily accessible via a 15~20min boat ride while
the more challenging ones are situated further out
west. |

There is also a marine park where you descend to schools
of fishes waiting eagerly to be fed. Look out for those
adorable batfish which tend to get a bit too excited
during a feeding frenzy!
From the big animals like black-tip
sharks, hawksbill turtles, bumphead parrot fish, giant
barracudas, pufferfish, blue-spotted and southern stingrays,
to the minute creatures the likes of reef crabs, anemone
shrimps, a plethora of nudibranch species; the list
is endless. There is definitely something for everyone.
