  PULAU SIPADAN/MABUL

“Spectacular”, “phenomenal”, “fabulous”, “magnificent”, “breath-taking” are some adjectives normally associated with the mention of Sipadan or Mabul. Do a Google on “Diving Sipadan” or “Diving Mabul” and you’ll be buried under an avalanche of articles and pictures to make you drool.

Off the southeast coast of Sabah in East Malaysia, rising from 700m of abyss in the Celebes Sea, is the oceanic island of Sipadan – an underwater mecca. When Jacques Cousteau
explored the island waters back in 1989, he had this to say – “I have seen other places like Sipadan , 45 years ago, but now no more. Now we have found an untouched piece of art.”

Get a rush from being in a tornado of barracudas… cruise along side hundreds of sea turtles… swim with white-tip and hammerhead sharks… For the macro fanatics, there are plenty of tiny critters such as fire gobbies, mandarin fish and frog fish; major sensory overload!

For conservation purposes, all dive resorts and operators were relocated off Sipadan Island since 31st Dec 2004. Instead, diving Pulau Sipadan will be from one of the nearby island of Mabul on a short speed boat ride. You will not be short-changed of diving pleasures by staying on Mabul.

Complimenting the animated dives offered by Sipadan, Mabul is reknown for its technicolor reef-scape, wall & muck diving. There is a hodgepodge of extraordinary reef dwellers and a plethora of marco life; just be sure to have your camera macro equipment setup before you jump in.
