How safe is filling my paintball HPA tank with a scuba tank?
no local fields for fill, and the scuba shops here dont amount for much. I’m looking for the best way to fill my HPA tanks for paintball. 68ci/4500psi – I’m wondering if using a scuba tank and a scuba yolk is the safest way for me to fill HPA tanks. If not, what are my other options? – Obviously purchasing a $2,850.00 air compressor is out of my budget, and out of the question. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Standard scuba tanks and standard paint ball tanks are both rated for 3442psi (normally, scuba shops fill scuba tanks to 3000psi). Make sure your paint ball tank is rated this high!
Looks like yours is rated for 4500 psi. You could buy a Luxfer Hoop-Wrapped tank which is rated at 4350psi.
The problem with filling from a scuba tank is that the pressure drops with each fill. This may be okay for the first few fills, but each fill is going to provide less and less pressure.
As far as safety is concerned, just use proper caution like, keeping your scuba tank lying flat, not upright. If the scuba tank valve is damaged by falling on a rock, it could turn into a high speed rocket, out of control.
